“Omniscient Reader” Director has commented on the casting of BLACKPINK’s Jisoo in the movie!

On the morning of June 17, a production briefing for the upcoming film “Omniscient Reader” was held at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University. Director Kim Byung-woo and lead actors Ahn Hyo-seop, Lee Min-ho, Chae Soo-bin, Shin Seung-ho, and Nana attended the event.

“Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint” tells the story of a world where the events of a long-running web novel suddenly become reality on the day the novel ends. It follows Kim Dok-ja (played by Ahn Hyo-seop), the novel’s sole reader, as he teams up with the story’s original protagonist Yoo Jung-hyuk (Lee Min-ho) and others to survive in a destroyed world. The movie is based on a hugely popular web novel of the same name and is a fantasy-action blockbuster with a production budget of approximately 30 billion won. It marks the return of director Kim Byung-woo, known for “The Terror Live” and “PMC: The Bunker”, after a 7-year hiatus.

Jisoo plays the role of Lee Ji-hye, a high school student who reveres Yoo Jung-hyuk as her mentor. This marks her first major role on the big screen since a special appearance in “Dr. Cheon and the Lost Talisman” last year.

Speaking on why he cast Jisoo, director Kim stated, “The criteria were clear: the most important thing was how sincerely and passionately the actor could approach the role.” He continued, “From our first meeting, I felt Jisoo’s sincerity. She was extremely focused during the script readings as well, which made her a natural fit for the part.”

He also added, “Although it’s not a large role, we needed an actor who could capture the audience’s attention,” and “Jisoo put in a great deal of effort within the scope of her role, and for now, I’m very satisfied.”

Jisoo has previously faced criticism over her acting, with some viewers pointing out awkward vocal delivery and emotional expression that hinder immersion. With “Omniscient Reader”, anticipation is high to see whether she can showcase her true potential as an actress.

Meanwhile, “Omniscient Reader” is set to hit theaters on July 23.
