Park So Dam Reveals How Veteran Actress Lee Jung Eun Helped Her Through Her Cancer Battle
Actress Park So Dam shared a special message of gratitude for Lee Jung Eun.
A production press conference for the film “Gyeongju Trip” (dir. Kim Mi Jo) was held on the morning of July 27 at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University Entrance in Gwangjin District, Seoul. The event was attended by actors Lee Jung Eun, Gong Hyo Jin, Park So Dam, Lee Yeon, and director Kim Mi Jo.
“Gyeongju Trip” follows four mothers and daughters on a “killer” trip they set out on after eight years of waiting, all for the sake of the youngest daughter, “Gyeongju,” who never returned from her school trip — a story of family revenge. Lee Jung Eun plays Ok Sil, a mother who loses her daughter and lives eight years waiting for revenge, while Park So Dam plays her second daughter, Young Ju.
Lee Jung Eun and Park So Dam reunited as mother and daughter for the first time since “Parasite.”
Lee Jung Eun said, “During ‘Parasite,’ there were times I wanted to smack her every time I saw her face — she kept trying to chase me out every chance she got,” adding, “When Park So Dam wasn’t feeling well, we traveled together and saw each other often, and I hoped we’d get to work together again once she recovered. I’m glad we got the chance to play a family that grows close in this project. I think it’s a special kind of luck that she became my second daughter.”
Park So Dam shared, “I still think about the scene we shot in ‘Parasite’ — I said the line ‘Please move’ and kicked her out. Even while filming that, I felt a real connection with her, and she also helped me a lot when I was recovering after I got sick.”
Park So Dam continued, “She took care of me like a real mother. I found it hard to tell my own family or my mom exactly how sick I was, but I told her. Even when she worried, I could be open with her about how hard it was,” adding, “She came to my place before dawn just to listen to me talk. Meeting her again as mother and daughter means a lot on its own. She’s a senior I’m endlessly grateful to, and I feel like I should spend my life repaying her.”
Park So Dam previously battled thyroid papillary cancer in 2021.
Meanwhile, “Gyeongju Trip” opens in theaters on August 26.
