Upcoming K-Drama “Pigpen” Starring Jang Ki Yong And Cha Seung Won Still Has No Release Date 2 Years After Filming Wrapped—Here’s Why
The mystery thriller “Pigpen,” starring Jang Ki Yong and Cha Seung Won, has reportedly been unable to secure a broadcast platform for two years.
According to a recent report by TenAsia, filming for “Pigpen” was completed around January of last year, and the drama had originally been scheduled for direct release through an OTT platform. However, the arrangement ultimately fell through. Although 1 year and 4 months have passed since filming wrapped, the production still has not found a platform to release the project.
As the scheduling situation continues to drift, the production team has reportedly decided to focus more heavily on post-production work, including CG, in order to further improve the quality of the series. According to industry insiders, the team now believes a release this year may be difficult and is instead aiming for a release next year.
Industry insiders say it is unusual for a project featuring top-tier actors such as Jang Ki Yong and Cha Seung Won to face such prolonged scheduling delays. Some speculate that multiple factors may be involved, including concerns over profitability compared to production costs and lower expectations regarding overseas distribution rights sales.
“Pigpen” is a mystery thriller about Jin Woo, played by Jang Ki Yong, who loses his memory and becomes stranded on a deserted island, where he desperately tries to recover his lost memories while surviving among a strange family. In addition to Jang Ki Yong and Cha Seung Won, the cast lineup also includes Park Hee Soon, Roh Jeong Eui, and Kim Dae Myung. Shin Ha Kyun also drew attention for making a special appearance in the series.
The drama is based on the webtoon of the same name written by Kim Kan Bi and Cheon Beom Sik, the creators behind “Sweet Home,” which was also adapted into a Netflix series. Director Kim Sang Man, who helmed the Netflix film “Uprising” produced by Park Chan Wook, is in charge of both directing and writing the drama.
