Police Reportedly Conclude Allegations Claiming Kim Soo Hyun Dated Kim Sae Ron As A Minor Were False
Police have reportedly concluded that allegations claiming actor Kim Soo Hyun dated late actress Kim Sae Ron while she was a minor were false, as authorities seek an arrest warrant for HoverLab CEO Kim Se Ui on defamation charges.
According to a report by JoongAng Ilbo on May 21, the warrant request submitted by Seoul Gangnam Police Station stated that Kim Se Ui allegedly spread false information about Kim Soo Hyun for financial motives, including YouTube revenue.
Police reportedly determined that Kim Se Ui was fully aware there was no truth to claims that Kim Soo Hyun had been in a relationship with Kim Sae Ron during her minor years, but still distributed the allegations with malicious intent.
Authorities also reportedly concluded that messenger conversations released by Kim Se Ui in March of last year as alleged “evidence” of the relationship had been manipulated. Police believe Kim Se Ui received 11 screenshots of conversations from the bereaved family, allegedly exchanged in 2016 between Kim Sae Ron and an unidentified individual, then edited seven portions of the material, including changing the other party’s name to Kim Soo Hyun.
Investigators further stated that Kim Se Ui knowingly uploaded the edited materials despite being aware the identity of the conversation partner had never been confirmed, allegedly attempting to make the conversations appear authentic.
Additionally, police reportedly concluded that an audio file of Kim Sae Ron released by Kim Se Ui’s side in May last year had been fabricated using artificial intelligence technology.
The report also stated that a lawyer representing Kim Sae Ron’s bereaved family has been booked by investigators alongside Kim Se Ui. Police allegedly believe the attorney provided materials related to the case, helped spread false information, and participated in what investigators described as an organized and deliberate act.
Previously, attorney Go Sang Rok, who represents Kim Soo Hyun, stated through social media that Kim Soo Hyun’s side had not filed a complaint against the family’s attorney directly. He added that investigators appear to have independently identified possible accomplice involvement during the investigation, calling it highly unusual for a legal representative to be converted into a suspect as a potential accomplice.
Police reportedly noted in the warrant request that the spread of false claims severely damaged Kim Soo Hyun’s social standing, economic activity, and professional career foundation. Authorities also allegedly expressed concern that continued dissemination of false information could cause irreversible harm, especially as the actor is reportedly still receiving psychiatric treatment.
Meanwhile, Kim Se Ui denied wrongdoing and claimed the arrest warrant request was an attempt to obstruct his reporting activities. During a livestream, he alleged he had planned to continue investigating a high-profile politician’s sexual crime case in Hanoi, Vietnam, and argued the warrant was suddenly pursued to interfere with that investigation.
