Report Alleges IU And Byeon Woo Seok Left Drama Due To Differing Opinions On Broadcasting Plans, Both Agencies Deny
Singer and actress IU and actor Byeon Woo Seok’s departure rumors from MBC’s new drama “21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife” (working title) turned out to be a false report incident.
On the morning of the 28th of March, entertainment media outlet TV Daily reported, “IU and Byeon Woo Seok have expressed their intention to leave ‘21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife.’”
The report alleges they wanted to exit because they couldn’t agree with the production company on where to broadcast the drama, it was alleged that the stars wanted Netflix but MBC was negotiating with Disney+. The report has since been deleted.
However, after checking with both IU and Byeon Woo Seok’s sides, this was confirmed to be untrue. IU’s agency, EDAM Entertainment, firmly stated in a call with Star News, “The report about IU leaving ‘21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife’ is completely false. She is currently preparing well for the drama.”
Byeon Woo Seok’s agency also corrected the rumors in a statement to Star News, saying, “Byeon Woo Seok has not left ‘21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife.’ He will proceed with the drama as planned.”
“21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife” is set in an alternate reality where South Korea is a constitutional monarchy. The drama tells the story of Seong Hee Joo (played by IU), a woman who has everything as a chaebol heiress but is frustrated by her lowly status as a mere ‘commoner,’ and Grand Prince Ian (played by Byeon Woo Seok), a man who is the son of a king but has nothing to his name. Their romance revolves around breaking societal class barriers.
The drama has been highly anticipated due to the collaboration between IU and Byeon Woo Seok.
