Rising Actor Ryu Deok Hwan From “Heavenly Ever After” Talks About His Wife, Why He Took A Break To Focus On Their Married Life And More

Rising Actor Ryu Deok Hwan has shared how he felt about the soaring popularity of “Heavenly Ever After” in new interview!

On May 26, Ryu Deok Hwan sat down for a wrap-up interview in Gangnam, Seoul, following the conclusion of the JTBC drama “Heavenly Ever After.”

In the series, which ended on May 25, Ryu portrayed a pastor with a warm conviction. His portrayal struck a balance between delicate emotions and inner strength, anchoring the story’s emotional tone. The character is a soul who passed away at the age of five and grew up in heaven, taking on an adult form. Through a fateful encounter with Haesook (played by Kim Hyeja), he forms a deep, healing bond with her.

Ryu Deok Hwan shared, “Even though the show has ended, I’m meeting up with the cast again today. I’m really relieved the series wrapped up well. I’ve been living quietly since getting married, but so many people reached out this time—even my friends’ moms. My mother-in-law especially contacted me a lot. I could tell she was really into the show. Instead of saying, ‘Nice job, Ryu son-in-law,’ she’d say, ‘You cried today,’ or ‘You acted like this.’ She used to ask if I needed side dishes, and now she talks more about the drama.”

When asked about his wife’s reaction, Ryu replied, “She loves dramas—honestly, she watches almost every drama that airs. She sees them with the eyes of the public, and I’m thankful she really enjoyed this one.” He even did a light-hearted impersonation of his wife’s voice, making everyone laugh.

Ryu married Jeon Soo Rin, a popular shopping mall model and CEO, in April 2021 after dating for eight years. Known for being a devoted husband, Ryu took a break from acting to focus on married life. “The reason was simple—I just wanted to focus on marriage. We dated for a long time, and she even waited while I was in the military. This person chose me and married me, so I thought hard about what I could do for her. I devoted time and decided to quit drinking because my wife can’t drink. I wanted to find other joys instead of alcohol,” he said.

Wanting to spend more time with her, he looked for work with a regular schedule and eventually tried opening a café. “Soon after I opened the café, COVID hit. I used to go to the local government office asking things like, ‘What do I do with straws?’ I had to follow government guidelines. It was tough to be friendly with part-time staff and also maintain my public image,” he said, drawing laughter with his honest tale of running a small business.

Later, Ryu turned to hobbies to fill his time. “Writers and artists express their own stories. But as an actor, I always portrayed others. When I was on military leave and wanted to watch my own work, I had to pay to view it. That made me wonder—can I even call this ‘my’ work? I realized actors have limited ways to express themselves. That’s when I started wanting to tell my own story, which led me to attempt an exhibition,” he said.
