Rising Actress Reveals She Gave Up Acting And Moved To The US, Until One Call Changed Her Fate
Actress Ryu Hye Young looked back on the time she gave up acting and left for the United States.
On the YouTube content “Nugajjipum” on October 28, a video titled “Am I Petty, Or Are You Rude?” was uploaded, with actress Ryu Hye Young appearing as a guest.
Ryu Hye Young said she often hears that she looks like Tongdak Cheonsa. Tongdak Cheonsa asked, “Have you ever wanted to get out of Korea? People like us try to break out of this system,” and Ryu Hye Young honestly answered, “I always wanted to get out.”
Ryu Hye Young, who actually did leave for the US, said, “I wanted to study abroad, so I started with a language course and went to study in the US to settle in, and then an audition call came.”
She said, “I was doing independent films back then too, so I left in the middle. I had decided, ‘I’m not acting anymore,’ ‘I got hurt a lot by acting,’ ‘This industry won’t work for me, I need to do something else,’ but somehow they tracked me down and contacted me. A commercial film production company said they wanted to meet me,” adding, “I was nervous when I got the call, but I had made up my mind not to do it, so I said, ‘I came to the US with a firm decision. I’m sorry,’ but they said they wanted to have a quick meeting even over Skype. I had the meeting, and the director said, ‘I think you need to come.’ Is this really what life is like? I gave up everything and came, but then I got a call, and I wrapped it all up and came back in just 3 months.”
Hearing this, Lee Eun Ji said, “Thank you so much to that director. Thanks to him, we get to see Hye Young’s acting,” and Ryu Hye Young said, “I should repay the favor like the magpie, but the director is such an amazing person that I don’t know when I’ll be able to repay him.”
Ryu Hye Young also said that she writes in a diary every day. She explained, “I started keeping a diary when I had a lot of anxiety and couldn’t sit still at home. I kept walking around the house. When it was hard to even sit still and breathe, I thought, ‘Let me first let it out through writing,’ and ‘Let me write down why I’m so anxious,’ and I started writing and finished a whole notebook right there.”
She continued, “I did the act of writing for 2 and a half hours, and I realized I had been sitting still for 2 and a half hours? Even if there was no content, I felt refreshed by doing this act. Whenever it was hard, I thought, ‘Let me pick up a pen and let it out,’ and that’s how my diary habit started.”
