Song Joong Ki Returns To KBS For The First Time In 10 Years After “Descendants of the Sun”
Song Joong Ki is set to return to KBS through the upcoming drama “Love Cloud,” marking his first KBS drama appearance in about 10 years since the massive success of “Descendants of the Sun.”
According to reports on the 13th of May, “Love Cloud,” starring Song Joong Ki and Park Ji Hyun, has officially been scheduled as a weekend drama on KBS2. The series is expected to air in the first half of next year as the follow-up project to the highly anticipated drama “Munmu.”
News previously surfaced late last year that Song Joong Ki was positively considering the project, and discussions regarding its scheduling reportedly became more concrete afterward. In addition to Song Joong Ki and Park Ji Hyun, Lee Si Woo and Choi Hee Jin are also said to be reviewing offers to join the cast.
“Love Cloud” is a romantic comedy that follows Kang Woo Joo, a former flight instructor, and Ahn Ha Neui, a former pilot trainee, who reunite seven years later in the mysterious island of Jeju, where love itself becomes like the weather. The two meet again as an air traffic controller and a pilot, leading to an emotional and heartwarming story. The drama will be directed by Song Min Yeob, while writer team Mad Rabbit is handling the script.
The KBS comeback is especially meaningful for Song Joong Ki. In 2016, he achieved explosive popularity across Korea and Asia through the KBS2 drama “Descendants of the Sun.” The drama recorded peak ratings in the 38% range, while Song Joong Ki solidified his “rom-com king” image through his role as Yoo Si Jin.
Since then, he has continued expanding his acting range through projects such as “Reborn Rich” and “Vincenzo.” However, because he has not appeared in a terrestrial broadcast drama—particularly a KBS production—since “Descendants of the Sun,” “Love Cloud” is drawing significant attention as his long-awaited return to his former broadcasting home after a decade.
