Song Young Kyu Caught Drunk Driving, Case Forwarded To The Prosecution

Beloved supporting Actor Song Young Kyu was recently revealed to have driven under the influence while heavily intoxicated—and it has now come to light that his exclusive contract with his agency has also expired.

According to OSEN’s report on July 25, Song Young Kyu was affiliated with Management Koo until early June, but following the expiration of his exclusive contract, he has been continuing his acting career independently without representation.

A representative from his former agency confirmed to OSEN, “We can’t say exactly when the contract ended, but Song Young Kyu is no longer under our agency.”

Earlier that day, media reports surfaced revealing that Song Young Kyu had been investigated by police and referred to the prosecution for driving under the influence.

According to reports, the Yongin Dongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province transferred Song to the Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office late last month without detention on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (DUI).

Song is suspected of driving approximately 5 km under the influence around 11 p.m. on June 19 from Giheung-gu to Cheoin-gu in Yongin. Police reportedly received a tip from a witness who suspected drunk driving, tracked down his vehicle, and apprehended him.

His blood alcohol level at the time was high enough to warrant license cancellation (above 0.08%). It was revealed that he had been drinking with acquaintances in Giheung-gu before deciding to drive himself home.

Song Young Kyu made his debut in 1994 through the children’s musical “Wizard Mureul,” and has since appeared in hit works such as the box-office smash “Extreme Job,” Netflix’s “Narco-Saints,” and Disney+’s “Big Bet.” He is currently appearing in ENA’s Monday-Tuesday drama “iShopping” and will also appear in SBS’s upcoming Friday-Saturday drama “The Winning Try ,” premiering July 25. He is also starring in the stage play “Shakespeare in Love,” which runs until September 14 at the Seoul Arts Center.
