SBS Drama That Scored Ratings In The 0% Range Turns Out To Be Written By The Penthouse Screenwriter

It was belatedly revealed that SBS Wednesday drama Spring of Youth was written by renowned screenwriter Kim Soon Ok.

On July 3, an SBS representative told Ilgan Sports, “Spring of Youth was written by writer Kim Soon Ok. The name ‘Kim Min Chul’ credited in the production details is a pen name.”

Until now, major portals and official sources had listed “Kim Min Chul” as the writer of the drama. However, it has come to light that the work was actually penned by Kim Soon Ok, known for creating numerous hit dramas such as Jang Bo Ri Is Here!, My Daughter, Geum Sa Wol, The Penthouse, and The Escape of the Seven, drawing attention both inside and outside the industry.

Spring of Youth, which concluded its run on July 2, tells the story of Sa Gye (played by Ha Yujun), the leader of a top K-pop band who is kicked out of the group. He then meets Kim Bom (played by Park Ji Hoo) on a college campus and attempts a comeback, unfolding a youthful musical romance. The drama notably differs in tone and style from Kim Soon Ok’s usual genre-heavy works.

Notably, the drama has failed to get good ratings and had its ratings hover around the 0 to 1% range throughout its run. Its ended its run last night with 1% in viewership ratings.

Many are wondering the reason behind why screenwriter Kim Soon Ok decided to write a project thats notably different in tone from her usual works.
