Tang Wei and Kim Tae Yong Welcome Second Child, a Baby Boy
Actress Tang Wei and film director Kim Tae Yong have welcomed their second son into the family.
Tang Wei shared the news herself on July 22, posting a photo on social media of the family of four holding hands. Alongside it, she shared her daughter Summer’s reaction: “Let’s start our family-of-four trip together with the foal (our second baby).”
She also shared a drawing of a foal that her father, a painter, made to celebrate the new arrival.
Chinese media reported that the second child is a boy. Tang Wei had referred to the baby by the nickname “foal” throughout her pregnancy, and used the same term when announcing the birth. Since this year is the Year of the Horse, the nickname appears to reflect the child’s expected birth year.
News of Tang Wei’s pregnancy first emerged after she attended a brand event in Shanghai this past April. Though she wore a loose-fitting black outfit, her figure drew attention when a slight bump was visible from the side, prompting Chinese outlets to speculate she was pregnant.
China.com reported that “Tang Wei wore a black trench coat to try to conceal her figure, but when she turned to the side, her slightly protruding lower belly was clearly visible.” Citing people close to her, the outlet also reported that she had been avoiding contact with others since late February, saying she “wasn’t feeling well.”
Tang Wei later addressed the pregnancy speculation directly on social media, writing, “I was truly surprised, and I’m very happy,” and adding, “Everyone is looking forward to having another little foal in our family.”
Tang Wei, born in 1979, is 47 this year. She and Kim Tae Yong, whom she met while filming “Late Autumn,” married in July 2014 and welcomed daughter Summer in 2016. Pregnancy rumors also surfaced in 2019, but she denied them at the time, calling them untrue. This second child arrives 10 years after her first, and 12 years into the couple’s marriage.
Tang Wei recently confirmed she’ll star in director Park Chan Wook’s Hollywood western “The Brigands of Rattlecreek,” setting up her next step in global projects. However, the birth of her second child is expected to affect the film’s shooting schedule.
