“The Remarried Empress” Under Fire For Using Nazi-Like Props, Production Issues Apology
As controversy arose that the production team of the global OTT Disney+ original series “The Remarried Empress” used a prop that is similar to a German Nazi medal, they stepped forward and apologized.
The production company of “The Remarried Empress,” Studio N, said to the press on the 15th of November, “We sincerely apologize for causing discomfort due to negligence in inspecting a certain costume prop.”
Saying that they deeply recognize the seriousness of the matter, they bowed their heads and said, “We will carefully and thoroughly carry out follow-up measures such as replacing the released photos and preventing recurrence.”
Disney+ previously released several promotional still cuts for “The Remarried Empress” on the 13th of November.
However, afterwards, on online communities and social media, there were points raised that the medal worn on the back by actor Ju Ji Hoon’s character, Emperor Sovieshu, resembles the German Nazi 3rd-class gold long-service medal.
“The Remarried Empress,” which presents itself as a romance fantasy drama, contains the story that unfolds when the Empress of the fictional Eastern Empire, Navier (played by Shin Min A), after being notified of divorce by Sovieshu, requests remarriage with Prince Heinrey (played by Lee Jong Suk) of the Western Kingdom.
The original work is a Naver webtoon of the same name that enjoyed worldwide popularity. As of the end of last year, this webtoon recorded approximately 2.6 billion cumulative global views.
“The Remarried Empress” is scheduled to be released in the second half of next year.
