Lee Se Young And Kentaro Sakaguchi Discuss “What Comes After Love,” Difficulties Communicating In Different Languages And More
The melodrama of a Korean woman and a Japanese man, “What Comes After Love,” will greet viewers this fall.
Recently, the production presentation for the Coupang Play series “What Comes After Love” was held at the Grand Ballroom of the Westin Chosun Seoul in Sogong-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul.
Director Moon Hyun-sung, and actors Lee Se Young, Kentaro Sakaguchi, Hong Jong Hyun, and Nakamura Anne attended the event, sharing various stories about the production.
“What Comes After Love” is an emotional melodrama that tells the story after love, focusing on Hong (played by Lee Se Young), a woman who has forgotten everything after a fateful love ends, and Jungo (played by Kentaro Sakaguchi), a man full of regrets.
The actors all agreed that they loved the script. Lee Se Young said, “Since the director had prepared for the project for a long time, I felt that each character’s emotional line was carefully explored.” Kentaro Sakaguchi also said, “There may be cultural differences between a Korean woman and a Japanese man, but I liked that there was a shared understanding of ‘affection,’ and I was happy to be able to tell a beautiful story.” Hong Jong Hyun added, “The delicate and realistic story resonated with me.”
This work, completed through location filming in both Korea and Japan, is drawing attention for its emotionally rich drama set against beautiful backdrops. Director Moon said, “Although this is not a co-production with Japan, about half of the setting takes place in both countries,” adding, “It was a ‘joyful burden’ for the staff to collaborate with the Japanese team after a long time. We approached it carefully, knowing that creating a good precedent could continue this flow.”
Lee Se Young also shared her honest feelings about filming in Japan. She said, “Since I had to act in Japanese and also react, if I didn’t memorize the lines, I wouldn’t understand, so in the beginning, I felt lonelier than Hong. But later, with the teacher’s help, I gained confidence.. On set, I played a lot of jokes with the Japanese staff and actors, and we taught each other—me teaching Korean and Kentaro teaching Japanese.”
Regarding her chemistry with Kentaro Sakaguchi, Lee Se Young said, “We had good chemistry, but it’s inevitable that some things were left lacking. Since we didn’t know each other’s language in detail, we couldn’t become as close privately.” She continued, “But while joking in the languages we knew, I thought, ‘If we could communicate fluently, we would have talked a lot.’ Kentaro is good at setting the mood, so I also thought, ‘If we spoke the same language, it might have gotten noisy,'” she said, laughing.
Meanwhile, “What Comes After Love” was released for the first time at 8 p.m. on the 27th of September.
