What Happens To Cha Eun Woo’s Netflix Kdrama “The Wonderfools” Following His Tax Evasion Controversy?
Actor Cha Eun Woo has become embroiled in tax evasion allegations, creating an unexpected variable for his upcoming project “Wonderfools”!
On the 22nd of January, it was reported that Cha Eun Woo underwent a high-intensity investigation by the 4th Investigation Bureau of the Seoul Regional Tax Office. The National Tax Service is said to have notified him of additional taxes exceeding 20 billion won [around $13 million] on charges of income tax evasion. This is reportedly the largest amount of additional taxes ever imposed on a Korean entertainer.
As a result, attention has also turned to Cha Eun Woo’s upcoming work, which is nearing release. The Netflix series “Wonderfools” is a superpower comic action adventure in which a group of ordinary neighborhood misfits unexpectedly gain superpowers due to an unforeseen incident in 1999, when apocalyptic beliefs were widespread, and fight against villains threatening the peace of Haeseong City. The series was originally scheduled to be released in the third quarter.
At the 2026 content lineup event held on the 21st of January, a day before the controversy broke out, Park Eun Bin said, “I don’t think there could be a better actor for the character. He gave his all to this project and then went to fulfill his national defense duty. I believe he’s living well wherever he is. I wish we could have done promotional activities together, but I decided to work hard even for Eun Woo’s share. I hope he returns in glory.”
