IU And Park Go Gum Share How They Felt Working With Each Other On “When Life Gives You Tangerine”
IU and Park Go Gum have nothing but praise for each other while talking about working together on “When Life Gives You Tangerines”!
The production presentation for the Netflix original series “When Life Gives You Tangerines” was held recently. Director Kim Won Seok and actors IU, Park Bo Gum, Moon So Ri, and Park Hae Joon attended the event.
“When Life Gives You Tangerines” is a Netflix series that unfolds the adventurous life of Ae Soon (played by IU), a rebellious girl born in Jeju, and Gwan Shik (played by Park Bo Gum), a devoted and strong-willed man, across the four seasons.
IU spoke about working with Park Bo Gum, saying, “We’ve known each other since our teenage years. This is the first time we’ve acted together in a full project, but I didn’t feel nervous at all; instead, I felt incredibly comfortable. It truly felt like Ae Soon and Gwan Shik. I can’t always be this at ease with a partner, but this time, we could freely exchange opinions and ideas. He was a really great partner.”
Park Bo Gum also shared, “I was deeply moved as well. We first met on a commercial set in our teens, then briefly worked together in my 20s for a special appearance, and now, in our 30s, we’re acting together in a full production. The fact that we get to work together as we grow older makes this experience even more precious.”
He continued, “IU portrayed Ae Soon’s colorful emotions so vividly and expressively that it helped me immerse myself into Gwan Shik’s character. Through the promotional activities, I feel like we’ve grown even closer. I’d love to work with her again in different roles beyond Ae Soon and Gwan Shik.”
This marks director Kim Won Seok’s second collaboration with IU since “My Mister” (tvN, 2018). He praised her, saying, “IU is an incredible actress. She was amazing back then, and this project reaffirmed that she’s an even greater talent. But it’s not that she ‘grew’ from ‘My Mister’—even back then, she was already an exceptional and detailed actress.”
He further complimented her, saying, “She’s busy with her music and constantly evolving, and yet, her acting also keeps improving. I sometimes wonder how she manages to grow in both fields simultaneously.”
