Lee Min Ho And Gong Hyo Jin’s Drama Suffers From New Ratings Low, Down To The 1% Range Despite 50 Billion Won Budget
Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin’s Drama “When the Stars Gossip” ratings have fell to a new low!
On January 18, “When the Stars Gossip” aired its 5th episode and recorded an average nationwide rating of 1.8% according to Nielsen Korea. The 5th episode has become the drama’s lowest-rated episode to date causing a shock among fans and netizens.
“When the Stars Gossip” budget is around 50 billion won [around $34 million] and boasts a huge star-studded cast. Its led by Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin, one of the biggest hallyu actors, and marks the 3rd collaboration between Gong Hyo Jin and screenwriter Seo Sook-Hyang.
Sadly, the drama has been struggling with ratings since day 1, and premiered to 3.3% on tvN. While the drama picked up the pace on its 2nd episode, its ratings continued to trend downwards with each passing episode causing a shock among fans.
With the 5th episode alone, “When the Stars Gossip” is already being considered Lee Min Ho and Gong Hyo Jin’s lowest rated work ever. While its not exactly a fair comparison since it airs on a paid TV channel, its still considered low because its a weekend spot on tvN.
The drama that aired previously in the same time slot as “When the Stars Gossip,” “Love Your Enemy,” had a higher ratings average with most of its run time numbers hovering around the 5 to 6%.
Some k-netizens have pointed that the setting itself is boring while others pointed that the chemistry between the leading actors is not enough to carry the drama. On the other hand, there are also many fans who have talked about how much they have enjoyed the drama so far.
Since “When the Stars Gossip” is planned for 16 episodes, many are looking to see how the ratings of the remaining episodes will turn out.
