Yoo Ah In Cast In Director Jang Jae Hyun’s New Film, Marking First Project Since Drug Scandal
Actor Yoo Ah In has been cast in director Jang Jae Hyun’s new film “Vampir.” Distributor NEW confirmed the news on August 18th. This marks Yoo Ah In’s first new project since his drug scandal.
“Vampir” is a mystery-occult film about an unidentified hitman who is hired by a priest to track down a mysterious cult. Yoo Ah In plays the hitman, a bold character who remains unshaken in any situation but gradually changes after encountering unidentified beings.
This is the first film Yoo Ah In has shot since his drug case. He previously appeared in “Say Nothing” (2025) and “High Five” (2025), but both were filmed before his punishment, making “Vampir” effectively his comeback project. News that he would appear in “Vampir” first surfaced late last year, and he attended the premiere of director Jang’s film “Hope” alongside him last month.
Alongside Yoo Ah In, “Vampir” also stars Lee Sung Min, Lee Jun Hyuk, Yoon Kyung Ho, Choi Hyun Wook, and Doyi. Lee Sung Min plays a priest who breaks a taboo for his beliefs, while Lee Jun Hyuk plays a cult member who longs for eternal life. Yoon Kyung Ho plays a smuggling broker who travels with the cult, Choi Hyun Wook plays a U.S. Army second lieutenant with mysterious intentions, and Doyi plays a mysterious girl.
The film is director Jang Jae Hyun’s latest project following “Exhuma” (2024), which drew 11.91 million viewers. He previously directed “Svaha: The Sixth Finger” (2019) and “The Priests” (2015). “Vampir” is set to release in 2028.
Yoo Ah In previously halted his activities after being punished for habitually using drugs, including propofol and marijuana. He was indicted for administering propofol and other medical narcotics 181 times between September 2020 and January 2023, and for illegally prescribing and purchasing around 1,100 sleeping pills under other people’s names 44 times from May 2021 to August 2022. The Supreme Court sentenced him to one year in prison, suspended for two years, this past July.
