Actor Yoo Yeon Seok Loses Appeal Over 3 Billion Won Tax Bill, Case May Head to Court

Actor Yoo Yeon Seok has lost an administrative appeal he filed against a roughly 3 billion won tax bill.

According to an August 4 report by Edaily, the Tax Tribunal recently dismissed the tax appeal Yoo Yeon Seok filed against the National Tax Service.

Yoo Yeon Seok had been operating through his own one-man agency, Forever Entertainment, which he founded himself. However, the National Tax Service determined that the company wasn’t genuinely supporting his entertainment activities and imposed a tax bill on him in spring of last year.

After a pre-assessment review, the final tax amount was set at roughly 3 billion won. Yoo Yeon Seok paid the bill and then filed a tax tribunal appeal. However, with the Tax Tribunal ruling that the National Tax Service’s tax assessment was valid, the possibility of the case moving forward to an administrative lawsuit has grown.

Regarding the matter, a representative from Yoo Yeon Seok’s agency, King Kong by Starship, told TV Daily on August 5, “This matter stems from a difference in interpretation and application of tax law, and the related process is not yet fully concluded.”

Yoo Yeon Seok’s side added, “We are closely reviewing the facts and the legal issues involved, and we will respond faithfully to any necessary matters in accordance with the procedures set by relevant laws,” and emphasized, “Yoo Yeon Seok has faithfully fulfilled his tax obligations up until now, and will continue to approach the related process with a responsible attitude going forward.”
