“Bitter Sweet Hell” Ending Explained

MBC’s drama “Bitter Sweet Hell” has concluded its run a couple of hours back, let us recap the finale episode!

“Bitter Sweet Hell” episode 12 recap

Yeong-Won and Sa-Gang are discussing how to tackle Se-Na and come to the conclusion that she’s a narcissist and they shouldn’t give in to her demands so she shows herself.

They conclude they should do the press conference and not read what she said. Tae-O receives a message from Se Na to drag some time as the ending will satisfy him. Sa-Gang visits him in prison and talks about how everyone has a certain smell and how it couldn’t have been another person who committed the crime. Thus, she lures him out to admit he was the accomplice not the person who committed the crime.

Because of the press conference and Yeong-Won revealing she was being stalked and harassed by Se-Na, her face gets revealed and she grows anxious. She’s also riddled with guilt for killing all those people.

But she sees Do Hyun out and about with his friend and kidnaps him while he is in the bathroom. She sets a trap and a timer to basically burn him alive. She calls the family and Yeong-Won panics but Sa-Gang calms her down and says Se Na must’ve left clues.

Thus, they gather the entire gang and split to find the house he could be in. Yeong-Won heads to the villa alone.

Just in the knick of time, Sa-Gang and Kang-Sung find him and save him.

At the villa, Se Na prepared for it to burn and is holding the lighter. She asks Yeong-Won why she never gave up on her family and wallows about how hers never gave a f-ck about her not even once despite how Yeong-Won’s family made her feel some times. She tells her she’ll leave her family and abandon them if she saves Do Hyun and begs to let her help her. Se Na is not convinced and sets the house on fire and pushes the button that burns Do Hyun, but Do Hyun had been saved.

Jae-Jin got just in time to save his wife. He goes inside and saves her.

Initially, Yeong-Won is devastated and wants to kill Se Na but when she’s told he’s fine by her husband, they both leave. She tries to save Se Na but Se Na lets go and burns down with the house.

At the hospital, Yeong-Won is surrounded by her family. Then, Ji-Eun shows up to blame Sa-Gang for the way she’s been treated. Ji Eun collapses and as Sa-Gang stays by her side when she wakes up. She apologizes and says she was wrong for what she did to her. She says they should spend some time together.

It was also revealed through police reports what Se Na had done and the case was closed.

At her mother’s room, her mom says it would’ve been nice if their father was there. She tells the daughter she doesn’t recognize that mom and dads forgive everything and that its okay to cry from time to time.

at a family lunch table, Sa-Gang tells everyone she’s leaving the house and admits its her greed to showcase her perfect family in her head. She now wants each one to be faithful for their own lives and get together when they want to have a meal together.

Jae-Jin testifies at his hearing and accepts to have his license as a doctor revoked due to his past actions.

a year later

Yeong-Won’s father is cleared from the past case he was falsely accused of. Yeong-Won had closed down her practice and now visits Tae O at jail, she’s counseling there now and wants to help him out.

Jae-Jin had opened his own dog’s heaven for the abandoned dogs where he happily works.

No family member lives together now either.

Do-Hyun is happily dating his boyfriend and seems to be studying overseas. So Yi is doing well and working part time.

Ji Eun now is dating Kyung-Tae happily and is busy with her own clinic.

Young-Min is now working at Soft Hands restaurant.

While at the library, Yeong-Won stumbles upon Sa-Gang’s new book bitter sweet hell and reads about her experience changing leaving her family and figures out her mother-in-law’s location.

So, she goes there to visit her. There, Sa-Gang explains she thought her obsession with the family was a sacrifice and Yeong-Won says she didn’t want to break the illusion that her family was perfect. While they’re talking and Yeong-Won admits she was surprised by how Sa-Gang changed, Park Kang-Sung shows up and she realizes she’s not alone and they’ve been living together.

 Yeong-Won leaves happy. She trips down and fall while she’s leaving and she laughs.
