“Mousetrap” Ending Explained

Netflix’s “Mousetrap” has released all its 10 episodes today, let us recap the finale and reveal who the real Je Moon Jae is!

The supposed fake Moon Jae calls the real Moon Jae and tells him he’ll see him in Jeju. Moon Jae recalls the past days of his high school and college.

Soon Yong is injured by ok, he ends up instructing his fellow officers to do several things to catch both. The uncle had escaped but a witness says he asked about an amusement park.

Noja locates the gangster he used to work and they beat each up pretty badly but both survive.

The detective goes to the park, meanwhile, the two Moon Jaes confront each other in the ship, and the supposed fake one reveals the detective is his older brother. He reveals that from the start, he was a fake who took someone else’s place.

The supposed fake and malicious Moon Jae who started everything is actually named Yu Min. He reveals that Moon Jae actually stole everything from him including Min Jeong. When he spread rumors about her and she had to quit grad school. She fell into a deep depression and eventually killed herself.

Yu Min watched all of that unfold in front of his eyes and had Moon Jae even more. When he tried to get money and publish his work, he discovered he stole his work and published it. He goes crazy and binge reading his novel next to the body of Min Jeong.

He killed another woman and used Noja a bit too. Noja calls the detective and asks him to rescue Moon Jae.

Yu Min explains he stole his notebook and that Min Jeong was not even his college mate. Everything was a lie. Moon Jae begins to unravel as he realizes that its true, he never wrote anything, and that wasn’t his life to begin with. The two get into a fight and Moon Jae ends up killing Yu Min and throwing him off the ship.

The detective interviews Moon Jae who tries to maintain the lie, but the detective catches him by the button on his shirt which was done all the way up. Moon Jae then claims the place was always his and he didn’t take the detective’s place. The detective learns he knows he’s his older brother.

Things settle and go back fine as Moon Jae contacts the publishing agent and gets back to publishing the 2^nd act of the book. He visits Noja. He reveals that he used to hate his name, he faked another name and even set the school on fire. He felt the fire was the start of something new for him.

Noja tells him to stop seeing him and to go their separate ways. They do.

Moon Jae goes back to his place to discover a manuscript at his house, he skims through it and discovers that this rat story should never get out. He is afraid Yu Min is back.

The detective goes through court again and gives a speech about how he’d try his best to do well if given one last chance.

Noja goes back to the countryside leaving that life behind. Due to his fight with the gangster he cannot control his right hand anymore.

As Moon Jae starts to unravel because of the manuscript, the editor-in-chief calls him for the script, he panics as he skims through what Yu Min wrote versus what he has to write. As he’s writing and losing his mind, the bell rings, its the gangster with a new look getting back to him to settle the money issue. Moon Jae holds a knife and peeks through the window either imaging or seeing the fake Moon Jae again. He panics and screams more. The gangsters still bangs on the doors saying he has found him. He calls him ‘the rat.’
