Netflix has released the 12 episodes of its newest political Korean drama, “The Whirlwind.” This is a recap of its finale and its ending explained!

the episode begins with Secretary Choi rushing to find President Park Dong-Ho as he left a message that indicates he might do something to himself. He tells her to prepare for the interrogation of Jung Su-Jin. she rushes around and finds his will in his office, once she reads it, she panics even more.

She rushes outside to the place overlooking the huge cliff and sees two people there, she then realizes what he’s about to do. As they struggle in an argument, President Park Dong-Ho grabs Jung Su-Jin’s handkerchief and commits suicide.

He’s rushed to the hospital but is pronounced dead shortly after.

Jung Su-Jin pressures her assistant to find CCTV footage that would prove her innocence, but she’s trapped and will likely be framed for his suicide.

At the prosecution office, Secretary Choi visits Jung Su-Jin and shows her a video message of President Park Dong-Ho telling her he can prove her innocence but she has to hand in every corrupt official to the prosecution, if she won’t do it, he will be buried with the will that proves she didn’t kill him.

Ultimately, she chooses to rat everyone out and escapes prison, but the chief prosecutor Lee Jang-Seok tells her she’ll be back, but since she’s the acting president now, this ain’t happening. She threatens him and leaves.

As the situation unfolds, Seo Jung-Yeon visits Lee Man-Gil at Jung Su-Jin’s office and wishes him a happy birthday, she sets a vase of flowers for him and tells him to cut his losses and escape her or else she’ll rat him out or frame him.

Because of how angry Jung Su-Jin made prosecutor Lee Jang-Seok, he has them run an exclusive that her assistant killed the former president by strangling him, thus, the assistant immediately loses trust in her.

As she returns to the office, he tells her he didn’t do it and she should turn herself in. She’s the one who’s been feeding him agenda and saying President Jang couldn’t save them. Thus, she strangled him as her assistant left because he couldn’t watch it.

They have a yelling match, and everything is being captured by the vase set in the office as she admits to murder and boasts about her plans. Her daughter then calls her saying she’s on TV.

Once she sees it, she knows she’s over. The prosecution then arrests her for the murder of President Jang.

President Park Dong-Ho’s funeral was held and attended by many. He’s laid to rest with the flag of Korea that has inscriptions. In voice over, he says he honestly did this for himself because he couldn’t bear the injustice of the world. One of the phrases written on the flag says a whirlwind, his movement became a whirlwind and he was able to shake the injustice in the country.

Jung Su-Jin is sent to prison as she suffers for her crimes. She sees what a woman wrote on a prison wall that says ‘long live democracy.’
