BLACKPINK’s Jisoo Pushes Back On Claims She’s the Only One Truly Sincere About the Group
BLACKPINK member Jisoo has directly pushed back on the perception that she alone is the most sincere toward the team and its fans. Amid the controversy surrounding the group’s 10th anniversary event, after Jisoo alone apologized and was seen in tears, reactions suggesting “only Jisoo seems truly sincere about BLACKPINK” prompted her to speak up in defense of her members.
On August 9th, Jisoo posted a lengthy message on a fan platform, writing, “I think everyone found it hard to speak up easily yesterday, because the line between what I want to say, what I can say, what I’m allowed to say, and what I don’t necessarily need to say is a difficult one.”
She continued, “But I just wanted to say that all four of us love [the fans] so, so much, and I wanted to express how precious we truly think of you.”
She also pushed back on interpretations surrounding her tears. Jisoo said, “I hope people won’t read too many meanings into my tears,” adding, “I just want to bring together a lot of emotions and sum it up as being moved by the fact that we’ve been together for 10 years.”
In particular, she directly addressed the perception that she seemed to be the most upset and sincere among the members. Jisoo asked, “Was I the most sincere and the most upset this time just because this was the first time I cried somewhere visible to fans?” before adding, “I don’t think that’s the case. It’s not that I wasn’t moved just because I didn’t cry during the tour.”
BLACKPINK held a “Meet & Greet” at the National Museum of Korea in Yongsan-gu, Seoul on August 8th to celebrate their 10th debut anniversary, meeting with 40 fans. However, fan frustration grew after the event was announced just two days before the 10th anniversary itself, and after initial guidance suggested only “some members, depending on schedule” would be able to attend.
Jisoo personally conveyed her apology to fans from early on in the controversy. During a live broadcast on August 8th, she said, “I was well aware it was our 10th anniversary and that it was an important day, but there was a problem in the process of communication. I feel sorry about that.”
After the event, when Jisoo was seen in tears upon receiving fans’ handwritten letters, some reactions asked, “Why is only Jisoo apologizing?” alongside interpretations suggesting she alone felt more desperate about the group’s activities than the other members.
