Complaint Filed With Culture Ministry Over BLACKPINK’s 10th Anniversary Event
Amid continued controversy surrounding BLACKPINK’s 10th anniversary event, a complaint related to how the event was run has been filed with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
On August 10th, an official from the Ministry’s Office of Audit and Inspection confirmed to Xports News that a complaint concerning BLACKPINK’s 10th anniversary event had indeed been filed.
The Ministry confirmed that the complaint has since been transferred to the Office of Audit and Inspection. However, it explained that the specific direction of the process — including whether the Ministry itself or the National Museum of Korea will ultimately respond — has not yet been determined.
BLACKPINK held a “Meet & Greet” event at the National Museum of Korea in Yongsan-gu, Seoul on August 8th to celebrate their 10th debut anniversary, meeting with 40 fans selected by drawing.
However, criticism arose that access to some areas of the National Museum of Korea was restricted during the event, and that the museum’s existing program schedule was disrupted. Artist Lee Da, who was running an “Amazing Thailand Exhibition Viewing + Drawing Workshop” that day, also stated on social media that the scheduled exhibition viewing time was pushed back due to restricted entry to the special exhibition hall.
As a result, a complaint was filed with the Ministry requesting a review of whether there were any issues with the facility use, event operations, restricted access to certain spaces, and changes to the existing program schedule surrounding the fan meeting.
The complaint is currently with the Office of Audit and Inspection. However, this does not mean an audit has formally begun, and the direction it will take has not yet been decided.
Earlier, preparations for BLACKPINK’s 10th anniversary event were also marked by controversy — the event was announced just two days ahead of time, attendance was limited to 40 people, and it was initially reported that only some members would attend before that was changed to all members attending.
With fan complaints, criticism over the museum’s operations, and now a Ministry complaint piling up, controversy surrounding BLACKPINK’s 10th anniversary event continues.
