2PM’s Jang Wooyoung expressed regret over choosing cash instead of stock when renewing his contract with JYP Entertainment.

On the most recent episode of the YouTube variety show Excuse Go on the channel “Ddun Ddun,” Jang Wooyoung and MAMAMOO’s Hwasa appeared as guests. Introducing himself as “JYP’s External Relations Director,” Jang Wooyoung drew laughter when Yoo Jaesuk asked, “Do you have shares?” and he replied, “No. I don’t really understand things like stocks.”

He explained, “When we did our first contract renewal, we were given a choice to receive the signing bonus either in company shares or in cash. At that time, we didn’t know how the company would turn out. Jinyoung hyung (Park Jinyoung) said, ‘If I give you shares, it might look like I’m asking you to invest in the company rather than offering a choice.’ A few days later, he said, ‘I decided to just give the members the signing bonus in cash.’”

Yoo Jaesuk commented, “JYP hyung turned out fine, didn’t he?” and Jang Wooyoung laughed, saying, “Looking back now, it drives me crazy.” It’s known that JYP’s market capitalization has increased about sixteenfold over the past ten years.

Yoo Jaesuk added, “Who could’ve known things would turn out like this?” and Jo Seho asked, “If you could go back in time, how much stock would you buy?” Jang Wooyoung honestly replied, “I’d probably buy it all.”
