ADOR Appoints Min Hee Jin As An Internal Director, But Is Min Hee Jin On Board With This?
Ador, the label under HYBE and the agency of NewJeans, has reappointed Min Hee Jin, the former CEO, as an internal director.
On the 17th of October, Ador told Star News, “We held an extraordinary shareholders’ meeting today and reappointed former CEO Min Hee Jin as an internal director.” The newly reappointed term will begin on November 2 and last for three years.
As of this writing, Min Hee Jin has not released a formal statement addressing whether she’s accepting this role or not. Notably, Min Hee Jin had previously refused other HYBE offers and insisted she should be reappointed as the CEO, thus, a lot of attention is being paid to whether Min Hee Jin will agree to this or not.
Previously, HYBE filed a lawsuit against Min Hee Jin in April, accusing her of breach of duty. Following that, Ador held a board meeting and appointed Kim Ju Young, another internal director at Ador, as the new CEO. At that time, Ador stated that while Min would step down as CEO, she would retain her role as an internal director and continue producing for NewJeans. However, Min Hee Jin’s camp responded, saying that the decision violated shareholder agreements and a court ruling prohibiting the exercise of voting rights.
On September 25, Ador maintained its stance that it would not accept Min Hee Jin’s demand to return to her CEO position. Ador clarified that they had already proposed to Min on September 11 to continue producing for NewJeans for the next five years, the duration of the group’s remaining contract, and guaranteed her basic authority as NewJeans’ lead producer. Ador expected further discussions on specific conditions to follow.
In response, Min Hee Jin’s side expressed concerns that if only her term was extended under a flawed contract, NewJeans might not receive proper support for their activities. Min has made it clear that she wants to return as CEO and has requested that HYBE present a concrete contract that reflects genuine intentions. She also emphasized the strong need for her reinstatement as CEO to ensure the best outcomes for the group.
In a recent interview with a Japanese TV broadcast, Min Hee Jin stated, “I am not currently a producer or a CEO. It’s an ambiguous situation where I only have internal director authority, but I am continuing with the projects I’ve been working on. I can’t abandon everything. I’m still in communication with the members,” adding, “Though I’m working, the next steps are unclear, and I want this situation resolved quickly.”
