ADOR, the agency of the group NewJeans, won a damages lawsuit against director Shin Wooseok of the advertising production company Dolphiners Films, who directed music videos such as “Ditto” and “ETA.”

On the 13th of January, the Seoul Central District Court’s Civil Division 62 (Presiding Judge Lee Hyun Seok) ruled in the damages lawsuit filed by ADOR against director Shin and Dolphiners Films, stating, “Dolphiners Films shall pay ADOR 1 billion won [around $676,979] along with delayed interest.”

Previously, Dolphiners Films uploaded the director’s cut video of NewJeans’ “ETA” music video to the Dolphiners Films YouTube channel.

Afterward, director Shin said, “ADOR requested the deletion of the related video,” and deleted all NewJeans videos that had been uploaded to another unofficial fandom channel he operated, called the “Ban Hee Soo Channel.”

ADOR countered, saying, “We only requested that the ‘ETA’ director’s cut video be taken down. We never requested the deletion of all NewJeans-related videos or a halt to uploads on the Ban Hee Soo Channel or elsewhere. Director Shin is spreading false information.”

In response, director Shin filed a complaint, claiming that ADOR’s statement referring to the situation as an “unauthorized release (of the director’s cut)” damaged his reputation. ADOR then filed a damages lawsuit against Dolphiners Films, stating, “The unauthorized release of NewJeans videos, for which the company holds ownership, is illegal.”

What do you think of the verdict?
