Both of SM and aespa’s Karina have issued statements regarding her controversial new Instagram post!

Recently, Karina posted a photo on her social media wearing a red jacket with a large number “2” on it, along with a rose emoji. Some netizens interpreted this as symbolic support for the conservative People Power Party—associated with the color red and the number 2 on ballots—as well as a reference to the term “Rose Election.”

After deleting the photo, Karina ended her silence by stating that the controversy was a “misunderstanding.”

On May 28, Karina addressed fans through a communication platform, saying, “I had absolutely no such intention. I’m truly sorry for causing concern.”

She explained, “As the misunderstanding kept growing and fans were getting worried, I thought I needed to speak up directly. From now on, I’ll be more mindful and careful with my actions. I’m truly sorry for making you worry again.”

Her agency SM Entertainment also denied the political interpretation of the post.

SM stated, “We apologize for causing concern through Karina’s post. She uploaded it simply as part of her daily life, with absolutely no other purpose or intention behind it.”

They continued, “Upon realizing that the post could be misunderstood, it was deleted right away. We sincerely apologize for the unintentional concern it caused.”

SM emphasized, “We will be more cautious moving forward to prevent this kind of situation. We hope that the artist’s actions will no longer be distorted or consumed with specific intentions.”
