Sasaeng Attacks Famous Kpop Idol In Dorm Area, Agency Announces Strict Legal Action
It has come to light that Sunwoo, a member of The Boyz, was assaulted by a sasaeng [obsessive so-called fans who are actually stalkers].
On the 14th of November, IST Entertainment addressed the situation in an announcement on the group’s official fan café. They stated, “Recently, there have been continuous incidents of privacy invasion and actions threatening the safety of our artists. We would like to share our position on this matter,” and issued a notice regarding legal actions against privacy violations and the spreading of malicious rumors.
The agency explained, “Illegal acts such as unauthorized visits to private spaces related to the artists, including their company building, shops, and dormitories; attending private schedules; spreading malicious rumors; taking photos and videos by forcibly approaching members’ paths during airport arrivals and departures, including on flights; following their vehicles; and illegally obtaining personal information to contact them have been ongoing. These actions have caused serious mental and material harm not only to the artists but also to their families, acquaintances, and those around them.”
They further revealed, “On November 9, Sunwoo of The Boyz was returning to his dorm after finishing his schedule. As he exited the elevator and tried to enter through the front door, a sasaeng who had been hiding in the emergency stairwell on the same floor approached him. Feeling threatened, Sunwoo immediately reported the incident to a company staff member, who, along with Sunwoo, apprehended the intruder and handed them over to the police.”
They continued, “In the process of restraining the sasaeng who attempted to flee, Sunwoo was assaulted multiple times. The individual was arrested at the scene for home invasion and assault, and an investigation by the police is currently underway. Both Sunwoo and the staff visited a nearby hospital immediately after the incident to receive medical examinations and treatment. We are prioritizing Sunwoo’s health and stability by continuously monitoring his condition and taking necessary measures.”
The agency also disclosed other incidents, such as a tracking device being attached to the artists’ vehicle and intentional tire damage. Although these incidents did not cause harm, they reported them to the police after securing CCTV footage to prevent future occurrences.
The agency warned, “These actions are clear illegal acts that inflict mental and material harm on both the artists and staff, We are adhering to a zero-tolerance policy regarding privacy invasions and illegal actions and will take decisive legal measures without exception. We are consistently collecting evidence and reviewing materials with our legal representatives and reiterate that there will be no leniency or settlements in this process.”
Meanwhile, The Boyz released their ninth mini-album, Phantasy: Overdrive, on October 28.
