Beloved Korean Author Baek Se Hee Passes Away At 35, Donates Several Organs Saving Many Lives
Beloved Korean author Baek Se Hee, known for the bestselling book I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki has passed away.
On the 17th Of October, several media outlets reported on the shocking sudden death of the beloved author. Then, the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency announced on the same day, “Baek donated her heart, lungs, liver, and both kidneys to five people while in a brain-dead state before passing away.”
Published in 2018, I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki sold over one million copies globally and has been translated into 25 languages. In the UK alone, it reportedly sold over 100,000 copies.
Born in 1990, Baek Se Hee studied creative writing at university, worked at a publishing company for five years, and later pursued a career as a writer.
Anton Hur, who translated Baek’s work into English, posted on Instagram, “Her organs saved five lives, but her writing saved millions of hearts,” and expressed deep condolences to her family.
Tributes have continued on Baek’s social media.
