Apology Issued After The Daughter Of Baidu’s Vice President Leaks 100s Of Personal Information Of Netizens Who Criticized IVE’s Jang Wonyoung
The Vice President of China’s largest search portal, Baidu, has apologized after his daughter leaked the personal information of 100s of netizens who criticized IVE’s Jang Wonyoung.
According to Chinese media outlets such as Nanguo Zaobao on the 18th of March, Baidu’s Vice President Xie Guangjun stated on Weibo the previous day, “My 13-year-old daughter got into an online argument and, unable to control her emotions, leaked someone’s personal information on her overseas social media account.”
He continued, “As a father, I failed to teach her in time to respect others and protect personal privacy. I feel deep guilt and sincerely apologize to those who were affected.”
Vice President Xie mentioned that he had spoken to his daughter and reprimanded her for her wrongdoing, asking netizens not to further spread the leaked personal information.
Previously, on Weibo, a woman, along with other netizens, launched a cyberattack against a pregnant woman who had posted critical comments about Jang Wonyoung.
The woman reportedly distributed the personal information of nearly 100 netizens, including the pregnant woman. She also boasted that she was not afraid of being reported to the police as she was in Canada and claimed that her father held a high-ranking position at Baidu.
Netizens later discovered online order receipts, employment certificates, and salary statements showing a monthly income of approximately 220,000 yuan (around $30,425), which revealed that the woman was the daughter of Vice President Xie Guangjun.
Xie Guangjun joined Baidu in 2010 and was promoted to vice president in the spring of 2021.
