A Former Korean Announcer Is Being Investigated For Allegedly Slandering His Own Ex-Wife

Former KBS announcer Choi Dong Seok is reportedly under investigation on charges of spreading malicious rumors about his ex-wife, broadcaster Park Ji Yoon, while they are in the middle of divorce proceedings.

According to a report by Hankyung.com recently, the Seogwipo Police Station in Jeju is currently investigating Choi Dong Seok on suspicion of defamation against Park Ji Yoon.

According to the report, Park Ji Yoon previously filed multiple complaints last year against anonymous individuals who posted malicious comments and spread rumors online. During the recent process of identifying the individuals behind those comments, it has been reported that Choi Dong Seok was listed as one of the suspects.

The Seogwipo Police stated regarding this matter, “As it is currently under investigation, we cannot confirm details.”

Choi Dong Seok’s side stated, “We have not received any official notice regarding the alleged charges,” and added, “We were contacted for questioning as a witness.” They also countered, “An acquaintance of Park Ji Yoon posted defamatory content about Choi Dong Seok, and we were questioned as the complainant.”

Choi Dong Seok and Park Ji Yoon met as part of the 30th class of announcers at KBS and later married, having one son and one daughter. However, news of their separation broke in 2023, and they are currently undergoing divorce proceedings. During this process, both parties also filed mutual adultery-related lawsuits against each other.

Although both sides’ adultery lawsuits were dismissed last year, Choi Dong Seok’s side filed an appeal, and the case is currently ongoing.
