BTOB’s Lee Changsub Reveals He Was A Victim Of Embezzlement Amounting To Over 100 Million Won
Lee Changsub revealed that he was a victim of embezzlement involving the academy he operates.
Recently, Lee Changsub uploaded a video to his YouTube channel. In the “Rental Changsub” segment, Lee Changsub visited a law office for a one-day work experience. While heading there, he asked, “People who need lawyers come to places like this, right?” before adding, “I want to file a case too. Against this scammer,” drawing attention.
When the producer asked if there was really a scammer, Lee Changsub replied, “I got scammed with the academy,” surprising viewers. Lee Changsub currently runs a practical music academy in Suwon. When asked if the person had not been caught, he answered, “No. They used the law in a very cunning way,” expressing frustration.
Later, while speaking with a lawyer, Lee Changsub said, “Before I start this rental experience, I actually have something I want to consult about first.” The lawyer guessed, “Did you lend someone money?” to which Lee Changsub responded, “I was scammed.”
He explained, “I had an academy that I operated. In the beginning, I put money into it every month because the corporation had to be maintained. There was a representative managing things on my behalf, but that person didn’t pay the employees’ salaries and spent the money however they wanted. The problem was that because bills weren’t paid, I had no choice but to spend hundreds of millions of won more.”
He continued, “The amount that person used came to 110 million won [$66,589], so I told them to pay it back. They agreed, stamped everything, and even wrote a promissory note. They sent 1 million won the first month, but after that, they still haven’t sent anything,” shocking viewers.
After hearing the story, the lawyer explained, “Since you came here as an intern today, you need to completely change your mindset to that of a legal professional. Since money was involved, simply saying ‘It’s a scam’ is amateur thinking. We have to distinguish whether this is fraud or embezzlement and follow the legal provisions.”
The lawyer added, “You said you operate an academy, right? Then the funds were entrusted to that person. If someone in the position of custodian uses that money freely, then the moment it’s used improperly, it becomes embezzlement. Even if they repay the money later, embezzlement is still embezzlement.”
Lee Changsub then asked, “So if I embezzled 10 million won and later put the money back, it’s still embezzlement?” The lawyer replied, “That’s right,” comparing it to “stabbing someone with a knife and then pulling it out.”
Realizing the point, Lee Changsub sighed and said, “You’re right. Even if you stab someone and stitch them back up, you still stabbed them with a knife,” before asking, “So that person is still guilty, right?” The lawyer answered, “Yes. I think you should go catch them now,” making Lee Changsub jokingly respond, “I’ll go right away.”
