Former Kpop Idol Member Reveals She Was Kicked Out Of Her Group Because She Didn’t Meet The Weight Requirements
Despite the kpop industry being notoriously difficult on idols especially when it comes to dieting and body image. And some kpop idols have come out to explain just how bad the rules can be. This former idol revealed she was actually kicked out of her group because she didn’t weigh as much as the label wanted her to.
Former Cignature member Ye Ah [real name Kim Haeun] recently went on Instagram and shared her experience as an idol. On Instagram, she shared about her time in the group, how she came to be an idol, and why her weight ended up being what got her kicked out.
In 2021, fans were shocked to learn that Ye Ah and the group’s main rapper Sunn both left the group. At the time, no one knew why they left, but now Haeun has explained why and the story has shocked fans.
In her Instagram post, she says that she couldn’t reach a low enough weight and her contract was terminated because of it. She revealed that the company’s very strict diet and weight requirements made it so she engaged in disordered eating habits to reach the goal weights set by her label.

Haeun says the label had daily weigh-ins and strictly controlled what the members could and couldn’t eat, and as if it couldn’t be worse for her, she got hives and stayed awake at night crying from the stress. When COVID-19 hit and work mostly stopped, she said when she went back home she cried to her mother saying she didn’t want to go back.
She shared a story when one member of the group ‘cheated’ on their daily weigh-ins and the entire group was punished for it. Haeun says the group was kicked out of their dorm and forbidden from using social media, told to lose the weight by the next weigh-in or else the label would understand it as if the members weren’t serious about the group.
Due to Haeun inability to maintain the strict weigh-ins required, the company terminated her contract. Haeun says, “I felt sorry for the members and sorry for the fans who liked me” and explained how her skepticism about going back to work and the idol industry intensified. So, she left that life behind and now works as a dance teacher. She says she’s starting chapter 2 of her life and is doing so much better.
Meanwhile, Cignature disbanded about six months ago.
