Famous Taiwanese Actor Arrested On Charges Of Attempted Murder As He Was Being Investigated For Evading Military Service

Taiwanese actor Darren Wang has been arrested on charges of attempted murder, following previous allegations of military service evasion.

On March 4, Taiwanese media outlets, including ETtoday, reported that Wang had been referred to the prosecution for attempted murder.

According to the reports, after returning to Taiwan recently, Wang requested an airport pickup service but was dissatisfied with the assigned vehicle, leading to an argument with the driver. He later called an acquaintance and assaulted both the driver and the dispatch manager. The driver reportedly suffered severe injuries, and Wang allegedly filmed the assault. He was arrested at his home by the police.

This incident came to light as prosecutors were investigating Wang for military service evasion. Previously, on February 18, Wang was arrested for attempting to avoid conscription. He allegedly paid a broker 1 million New Taiwan dollars (approximately $30,264 ) to fake a heart condition. By deceiving a doctor and obtaining a falsified diagnosis, he was able to evade mandatory military service.

Wang was released on bail after paying 150,000 NTD (approximately $4,571), while three brokers involved in the scheme were detained. He was scheduled to begin his military service on March 13, but the attempted murder charge is expected to impact his enlistment.

Wang gained popularity in Korea through the 2015 film “Our Times.” However, his name was linked to the Burning Sun scandal due to his association with former BIGBANG member Seungri, leading to the cancellation of his press conference in Korea.
