Famous DJ Yesong Sentenced To 8 Years In Prison For Killing A Delivery Driver While Driving Drunk

DJ Yesong (real name Ahn Yesong, 24) has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for causing the death of a motorcycle delivery driver while driving under the influence. The Supreme Court upheld the 8-year sentence on December 10, dismissing Ahn’s appeal.

Ahn was charged under the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes Act (Dangerous Driving Resulting in Death). The court ruled that her appeal did not meet the legal grounds for further review.

The incident occurred in February in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam, Seoul, when Ahn, driving a Benz under the influence, struck a delivery motorcycle. The driver, a man in his 50s, succumbed to his injuries despite being rushed to the hospital. Ahn’s blood alcohol level was found to be 0.221%, far exceeding the legal limit for license revocation.

Controversy arose after reports revealed that Ahn failed to provide proper assistance following the accident and was seen holding her pet dog instead.

In the first trial, Ahn was sentenced to 10 years in prison, which was reduced to 8 years in the second trial. The appellate court cited mitigating factors such as partial settlements with the victim’s family, Ahn’s confession to the crime, and additional agreements reached during the appeal process.

However, the court emphasized the severity of her actions, noting that Ahn drove dangerously—violating signals, speeding, crossing the centerline, and standing in the middle of the road in a highly intoxicated state. The court also criticized her for fleeing the scene after the initial collision, which led to the victim’s death.

The Supreme Court’s decision marks the conclusion of the legal proceedings in this high-profile case.
