Known Composer And TV Personality Convicted For Drug Use Conducts Interview Talking About Its Dangers

Composer and TV personality Don Spike (real name Kim Min Soo), who was released this past March after serving a prison sentence for drug use, is set to appear on JTBC’s political and current affairs YouTube channel, “Genre Only Yeouido.”

On July 24, a JTBC representative confirmed to Xportsnews, “Don Spike will appear on today’s live broadcast of the political and current affairs YouTube channel Genre Only Yeouido.”

Genre Only Yeouido is a JTBC YouTube political talk show that began airing in November 2023. Don Spike is scheduled to appear alongside former Gyeonggi Province Governor Nam Kyung Pil—who now leads the drug prevention and rehabilitation organization NGU (Next Generation United)—at 11 a.m. to speak about the dangers of drug use and take on the role of a drug prevention advocate.

Don Spike was released this March after completing a two-year prison sentence. He is currently involved in managing a restaurant in Seoul, which he had opened with his younger sibling prior to his drug scandal. He is also reportedly undergoing addiction treatment and rehabilitation.

He was arrested in 2022 at a hotel in Gangnam, Seoul, on charges of purchasing and using methamphetamine. Police found that between late 2021 and September 2022, he had purchased approximately 45 million won (around $34,000 USD) worth of meth and used it 14 times in hotels and party rooms around Gangnam.

It was also revealed during the investigation that Don Spike had prior drug convictions, including a fine for marijuana use in 2010 and a one-year prison sentence with a two-year probation period for a separate drug case that same year—shocking many at the time.
