Known Korean Composer Passes Away at 45, The Music Industry Is In Shock

Former People Crew member and hit songwriter Oh Sung Hoon has passed away at the age of 45.

According to entertainment media outlet OSEN and the music industry on February 3, Oh Sung Hoon passed away early in the morning at a recording studio. His sudden death has left his acquaintances and many in the music industry in shock. The exact cause of death has not been disclosed.

A music industry insider stated, “Just a few days ago, we talked on the phone about working together, and I still can’t believe this happened.”

Born in 1979, Oh Sung Hoon started as a B-boy at Moon Night, the legendary club that produced figures like Lee Juno and Kang Wonrae. In 1997, he debuted as a member of the dance group People Crew, which included MC Mong.

He later transitioned into songwriting, co-composing K.Will’s Love 119 with Jo Young Soo. His works include Gummy’s Remember Me, My All and Those Times, J-Cera’s Love City Confession District Happiness, Navi’s My Heart Got Hurt, December’s What I Learned Was Love, I’ll Be a Star, Crying with My Heart, KCM’s Sad Snowman, Shin Hyesung’s Age, and MC Mong’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Mong, among others.

In the past, Oh Sung Hoon shared that he overcame the pain of school bullying through music. In a 2009 interview with Yonhap News, he revealed, “I was a victim of school violence. Although I was about to graduate, my teacher and mother decided that I should drop out. From then on, I spent a lot of time alone and started dancing after being inspired by Seo Taiji and Boys.”

His funeral arrangements are currently being prepared, with details on the burial site and other procedures to be announced later.
