Famous SM Idol Reportedly Leaving Company After 25 Years

Girls’ Generation member Yuri’s exclusive contract with SM Entertainment, which she’s been with for a long time, will reportedly soon come to an end. With Yuri set to become a free agent, attention is on whether she’ll re-sign or move to a new agency.

According to TenAsia’s reporting on July 4th, Yuri’s exclusive contract with SM Entertainment, the company she’s been with for 25 years since her trainee days, will expire next month. Yuri is weighing whether to re-sign with SM Entertainment or join a new agency.

As she balances both singing and acting careers, Yuri is reportedly also considering a move to a company that specializes in actor management. However, since she plans to continue activities with the unit “Hyorisu” alongside fellow Girls’ Generation members Sooyoung and Hyoyeon, she is said to be reviewing her future path from multiple angles, including whether to re-sign.

Yuri was selected as “Dance Jjang” (best dancer) at a youth talent competition and joined SM as a trainee in 2001. After six years of training, she debuted with Girls’ Generation in 2007. Since 2016, she has actively pursued acting, moving between television and film.

Meanwhile, as a member of Girls’ Generation, Yuri led the group through numerous hit songs during K-pop’s golden era, including “Into the New World,” “Gee,” “Genie,” “Oh!,” “The Boys,” “I Got a Boy,” and “Forever 1.” As an actress, she has built her filmography with dramas such as “Defendant,” “Good Job,” “Parole Examiner Lee,” and “Bossam: Steal the Fate.”
