Kangin, formerly of Super Junior, who had stepped away from entertainment activities following controversies including drunk driving and assault, is attending an official public event in Korea today (the 4th), this September.

Kangin will attend the “2027 S/S Seoul Fashion Week (SFW)” GREEDILOUS show, held on the 4th at World Park in Lotte World Tower, Songpa-gu, Seoul. Ahead of the show, a photo wall event is scheduled to take place starting at 6:30 PM. Press coverage of the photo wall wasn’t originally planned, but after the event was confirmed on the afternoon of the 3rd, Kangin will be able to appear in public for the first time in a while.

In particular, this marks the first time Kangin has appeared at an official domestic event since he left Super Junior in 2019.

Kangin, who debuted with the group Super Junior in 2005, was involved in several controversies during his time with the group. After being linked to an assault incident in 2009, he caused a hit-and-run drunk driving accident that same October, and following a second drunk driving incident seven years later, he halted his activities amid the backlash.

Kangin then voluntarily left Super Junior in 2019, sharing his feelings about leaving the team at the time, saying, “Watching the members go through things they shouldn’t have had to deal with because of my issues, I felt I couldn’t put off leaving any longer.”

Since stepping back from activities in Korea, Kangin has continued to meet with fans by holding fan meetings mainly in regions overseas where he remains popular. In January of this year, Kangin held his first solo fan meeting tour, “STUNNING TOGETHER,” starting in Manila, Philippines — where Super Junior’s popularity remains high — followed by Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and Mexico City, Mexico, meeting fans around the world.

Amid all this, news of Kangin’s return to Korea after 7 years has drawn public attention, and opinions about him at home remain sharply divided. Some online commenters believe he should first apologize and reflect on his past controversies, while others feel he deserves another chance after having gone through a sufficient period of self-reflection.

With opinions clashing, attention remains on what impact Kangin’s latest move will have, and whether he will fully resume domestic activities.
