Member of Famous First-Generation K-Pop Group Belatedly Reveals He Got Divorced Two Years Ago
Go Ji Yong, formerly of the group Sechs Kies, shared his side of the story through his agency after belatedly revealing that he divorced two years ago.
On July 29, Go Ji Yong addressed his belated disclosure of the divorce through his agency, Mounty Movement Story, saying, “My ex-wife and I agreed not to make this public so that our son could fully accept the situation and grow up in a stable environment,” adding, “It was a choice we made for our child.”
Regarding the reason for the divorce, Go Ji Yong explained, “It was a decision we made out of respect for each other’s paths, and there wasn’t any particular reason behind it.”
Go Ji Yong also addressed rumors about his health, saying, “Due to my own carelessness, I briefly experienced some liver function issues, but I’m currently recovering and improving a lot,” adding, “I wanted to thank everyone who’s genuinely worried about me and let you know that I’m doing my best to take care of my health.”
His agency’s CEO said, “It’s unfortunate that Go Ji Yong has had to make an announcement about such a deeply personal matter, but we want to reaffirm that this was simply a choice made to protect his child, and there was no other reason behind it,” adding, “That said, if rumors or speculation about his family continue, the company will take legal action to protect his family.”
Go Ji Yong married family medicine physician Huh Yang Im in 2013 and welcomed a son the following year. From 2017, he appeared on “The Return of Superman” for about two years, sharing glimpses of his daily life raising his son.
In a post on his Instagram, Go Ji Yong wrote, “I divorced my wife two years ago,” adding, “The reason I didn’t share this until now is that I wanted to protect my son, Seung Jae, so he could fully accept the situation and grow up in a stable environment.”
He continued, “The divorce was a decision we made out of respect for each other’s paths and to each fulfill our responsibilities as adults,” adding, “Seung Jae understands his mom and dad’s new relationship and is doing well and staying stable right now.”
