Famous TV Personality Shocks With Divorce News 22 Years After Marriage, She Explains Her Decision In An Interview
TV personality Hong Jin Kyung (47) has divorced after 22 years of marriage.
According to News1 on the 6th of August, her agency TNN Entertainment briefly stated, “She recently got divorced.” It was reported that Hong Jin Kyung and her husband separated after reaching an amicable agreement.
Hong Jin Kyung married a businessman five years her senior in 2003 and gave birth to their daughter, Rael, in 2010. She had often spoken affectionately about her husband on various broadcasts, highlighting their warm relationship. However, after 22 years of marriage, the couple has decided to part ways.
Despite the divorce, Hong Jin Kyung and her ex-husband are reportedly continuing to fulfill their responsibilities as parents and maintaining a peaceful relationship. Their daughter Rael is also said to respect their decision.
After the news hit the media, the most recent episode of Jung Sun Hee’s YouTube channel featuring Hong Jin Kyung was released. In it, she spoke about the reasoning behind why she divorced.
In the video, Hong Jin Kyung said, “For 27 or 28 years, I only knew Rael’s dad and only lived with him. You might be wondering why we separated, but it wasn’t because of any one person’s fault. We just wanted to try living a little differently.”
She continued, “After we broke up and became just two separate people, that’s when real friendship was born. In the past, I loved and followed him as a boyfriend, but now he’s just someone I truly like — he’s a great ‘oppa’ to me now.”
Upon hearing this, Jung Sun Hee joked, “Then are you two getting back together next year? If so, I won’t let it slide.” Hong Jin Kyung laughed and replied, “He still comes over to the house often. Even our in-laws get along well. I didn’t know my mom and my ex-mother-in-law were such cool people, but they often meet and have meals together.”
Jung Sun Hee then asked, “Was there a moment when you felt like you just couldn’t go on anymore?” Hong Jin Kyung answered, “It’s not like one of us did something terribly wrong. The fact that those kinds of feelings just weren’t there anymore — that was the biggest reason. People might say, ‘So does everyone get divorced when that happens?’ But this was just our personal decision, and for us, that part was too difficult.”
Hong Jin Kyung also shared, “My ex-mother-in-law asked us to wait until Rael was a bit older before making it public, so I couldn’t talk about it sooner. But to be honest, many reporters already knew. We couldn’t delay it any longer, and Rael’s dad also said, ‘Go ahead and share it,’ so that’s why we finally revealed it.”
Hong Jin Kyung began her career as a model after winning the Best Pose award at SBS’s 2nd Supermodel Contest in 1993. She later transitioned into a TV personality.
