A Japanese Girl Group Accused Of Copying EVERGLOW Issues An Apology
A Japanese rookie idol group has responded to allegations of copying the Korean group EVERGLOW.
Previously, the Japanese agency SOVA announced the formation of their rookie idol group along with a logo. However, criticism arose because the team name was the same as the Korean group “EVERGLOW” and the logo looked similar.
In response, two apologies were issued. They wrote,
We sincerely apologize for the discomfort and inconvenience caused by the name and logo design used by our group.
The term “everglow” is something I, as the producer, have cherished for about 10 years and have frequently used in my personal activities. For the launch of this group, I adopted the same name. Regarding the logo design, I envisioned the “ever” part as an infinity (0¢) motif, and as a result, it ended up resembling another design. It was never our intention to imitate.
However, due to insufficient prior research and lack of consideration regarding the existing group and its fans, this situation occurred. I deeply apologize once again for causing concern and inconvenience to many people.
We have immediately ceased using the problematic name and logo and are moving forward with creating a new name and logo.
I deeply regret having damaged the trust of those involved and those who wished to support our group. We will work earnestly toward regaining trust as soon as possible.
And the producer said:
Regarding our new group, I deeply apologize for the great concern and inconvenience caused.
The background is as stated by Yoshimura above. From now on, when deciding on a name or logo, we will always conduct legal checks and third-party reviews to ensure that such an incident never occurs again.
I sincerely apologize once again.
Meanwhile, the Korean group EVERGLOW debuted in March 2019 but announced their disbandment in May this year, six years after their debut.
