One Of The Biggest Veteran Actress In Korean Entertainment Passes Away

Jeon Sook (Jeon Gap Rye), passed away at the age of 98.

According to the film industry, Jeon Sook passed away on September 29 due to natural causes.

She began her acting career with a minor role in the 1955 film The Hill of Phoenix. In that film, she played a character carrying a child in a wedding scene. Throughout her career, she appeared in about 500 films. Jeon Sook was well-known for portraying motherly figures in various roles, sometimes strict and sometimes kind.

She was awarded the Special Acting Award at the 30th Grand Bell Awards in 1992 for her role in I Call You an Angel. In 2001, she was recognized as a meritorious figure in film at the 39th Film Day Celebration, and she also appeared as a Korean grandmother in the Japanese film Firefly (2001). She even starred in the stage production The Wedding Day.

Actor Han Ji Il expressed his condolences, recalling Jeon Sook’s warm and kind personality, and director Shin Jung Kyun of Rose Motel: The Way to Rose Inn also mourned her, sharing memories of her generosity during filming.

Her funeral was held on October 1.
