Famous Bands Under Fire Over Excessive Personal Information Requirements For Fan Meeting, Agency Issues Apology
JYP Entertainment has issued an official apology after facing controversy over excessive personal information requirements at DAY6‘s fan meeting venue entrance.
DAY6 held their fourth official fan meeting “DAY6 4TH FANMEETING ‘PIER 10: All My Days'” at Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul from July 18 to 20. However, rather than being filled with happy fan reviews, various SNS platforms and online communities were flooded with complaints from fans who were distressed by over-the-top identity checks prior to entering the venue. Some were even denied entry entirely, leading to public backlash.
According to fans, some staff did not accept youth IDs even though they were pre-approved, and in some cases, refused entry even when police officers verified identities, blatantly ignoring law enforcement authority. With growing doubts on whether simple ticket refunds would suffice as compensation, attention is now on how JYP will handle the upcoming sessions of the fan meeting, scheduled from July 25 to 27 at the same venue.
On the 21st of July, JYP Entertainment (hereafter JYP) stated, “First, we sincerely bow our heads in apology to the audience members who experienced inconvenience and harm during the entrance process of the ‘DAY6 4TH FANMEETING “PIER 10: All My Days”‘ due to identity verification procedures.”
JYP continued, “We confirmed that excessive personal information collection and demands were made in relation to the performance. During the process of outsourcing entry management to an operating company, actions such as requesting unnecessary additional personal data and collecting and sharing attendees’ information for document verification caused discomfort for the audience.”
They added, “The identity verification procedure implemented in previous events was intended to distinguish actual attendees from illegal ticket resellers and to protect our fans. However, in this case, we failed to respond flexibly and uphold our management responsibilities.”
JYP stressed, “We take full responsibility for the matter. We will thoroughly manage so that personal privacy is not violated and that no unfair data collection occurs again. We will also confirm the facts with the outsourced operators and offer ticket refunds as compensation to those who were denied entry due to the excessive identity verification process. Detailed guidance on the refund procedure will be provided soon.”
Lastly, JYP stated, “We sincerely apologize once again for the emotional harm caused to our audience. We will do our best to ensure the remaining fan meeting sessions can be enjoyed with joy.”
