Beloved Korean DJ Reportedly Stopped Eating After The Sudden Tragic Death Of His Wife
After famous Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu’s death, and her husband, Koo Jun Yup (55), is reportedly refusing to eat and drink.
Recently, Chinese media outlets such as the China Times reported, “It has been nearly a month since Barbie Hsu passed away. Koo Jun Yup is still shedding tears every day, unable to escape from his grief.”
According to insiders, every time Koo Jun Yup speaks with Barbie Hsu’s younger sister, broadcaster Xu Xidi (46, 徐熙娣, Seo Hee Je), they both cannot stop crying.
One source stated, “Koo Jun Yup’s eyes are severely swollen from constant crying. The swelling is so extreme that treatment is not effective. He has also lost a significant amount of weight due to not eating properly.”
Barbie Hsu debuted in 1994 as part of the group “SOS” with her sister, Seo Hee Je. Due to disputes with their agency, they changed their name to “ASOS” and continued activities until 2003. She gained widespread fame across Asia for her role as “Shan Cai” in the Taiwanese version of “Boys Over Flowers,” titled “Meteor Garden” (2001–2002). She also starred in dramas such as “A Chinese Ghost Story” (2003) and “Summer’s Desire” (2007), as well as films like “Reign of Assassins” (2010) and “The Great Hypnotist” (2014).
After divorcing Wang Xiaofei (43, 汪小菲, Wang Xiaofei), Barbie Hsu rekindled her relationship with Koo Jun Yup, whom she had dated 20 years prior. The couple announced their marriage in March 2022. They originally dated for about a year around 1998 and reunited after 23 years. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, they registered their marriage without a formal wedding. Koo Jun Yup registered their marriage in South Korea in February 2022, followed by legal registration in Taiwan, officially becoming husband and wife.
Barbie Hsu passed away on February 2 during a family trip to Japan due to flu-related pneumonia. Reports indicate that she had visited the hospital four times before her passing but missed the “golden time” for treatment, leading to her tragic death. Koo Jun Yup and Barbie Hsu’s family were by her side in her final moments. After completing the cremation process in Japan on February 3, her remains were brought back to Taiwan on February 5.
On February 6, Koo Jun Yup expressed his grief on Instagram, writing, “Right now, I am in indescribable sorrow and pain, as if my heart is being torn apart. I have no strength to speak, nor do I want to say anything.”
Due to the overwhelming grief from Barbie Hsu’s passing, Koo Jun Yup has decided to suspend all activities indefinitely. According to Taiwanese media outlets such as ETtoday on the 21st, Koo Jun Yup canceled a flash mob event in Taiwan scheduled for February and also withdrew from a medical beauty clinic opening event planned for next month. Local reports stated, “At this point, it is uncertain when Koo Jun Yup will resume his activities. His sorrow over losing his wife is too immense, and he must first heal from his inner pain before returning to work.”
