Former AOA Member Accuses Older Sister Of Years-Long Financial Betrayal, Threatens Legal Action
Group AOA’s former member Kwon Mina has claimed that she has long been in a financial dispute with her older sister. This September, having previously gone public about a falling out with her sister back in 2021, she has now signaled she may pursue legal action.
On September 4th, Kwon Mina posted a lengthy message on her social media, writing, “What is family? In the end, my mother is the only one who remains family to me.”
Kwon Mina claimed that her older sister had embezzled money from her, their mother, and an acquaintance of their mother’s. She wrote, “I already knew that my sister had embezzled money,” adding, “I’m not someone who keeps score over money between family — if she needed to use some when things were hard and couldn’t pay it back, all I needed was a sincere word of apology or acknowledgment.”
Kwon Mina explained that she came to realize the severity of the situation after checking her mother’s assets and bank records through her mother about two years ago. She claimed, “It was only after I found out that my mother’s assets, along with money from another one of my bank accounts and money I specifically wanted to give my mother, had all disappeared, that I realized how serious it was.” She continued, claiming, “Right now, the evidence I have is a single 150 million won IOU that may or may not even be recognized, and the amount actually embezzled — including another fraud case where she got me to sign for a car purchase worth over 100 million won — comes out to more than 700-800 million won combined across the three of us.”
Kwon Mina recalled, “Breast cancer treatment is scary. Chemotherapy is scary. The treatment costs, and the cosmetic surgery after the mastectomy, were all paid out of my own pocket.” She criticized her sister, saying, “My mother isn’t someone who can stand up for herself, and my sister is someone who used to confront our mother early in the morning if breakfast wasn’t ready,” adding, “If there’s anything false in this post, contact me. I’m ashamed that she’s my sister.”
However, she stated that no investigative agency or court has made a ruling on the matter as of yet. Kwon Mina said, “I haven’t gone to the police station yet, and I haven’t gone to court yet,” while hinting that she would pursue legal action if her sister doesn’t apologize or acknowledge wrongdoing.
She also looked back on her relationship with her sister from childhood. She revealed that due to her family’s financial circumstances, she had worked part-time jobs to support herself since middle school, and shared that she had wanted to rely on her sister at the time but wasn’t able to. She closed by writing to her sister, “I’m sorry. The sister I saw toward the end felt like a monster.”
Kwon Mina debuted as a member of AOA in 2012 and left the group in 2019. She later clashed with former member Jimin, who claimed she had been bullied by Kwon Mina during their time in the group.
She also revealed this past January that she was undergoing an ongoing legal dispute with medical staff, claiming she suffered burns while receiving a procedure under sedation at a dermatology clinic. She has since shared her treatment process, saying she was diagnosed as needing a skin graft and long-term treatment.
