Popular Kpop Idol Exempted From Military Service Due To A Heart Condition

Singer and actor Lee Jinhyuk, formerly a member of UP10TION, has been exempted from military service due to a congenital heart condition.

On November 27, Xports News reported that Lee Jinhyuk received a military exemption due to his heart valve not functioning properly, for which he underwent surgery in the past. He continues to undergo regular medical check-ups for his condition.

Lee Jinhyuk previously revealed his battle with heart disease on the MBC variety show Radio Star in 2019. He shared, “I don’t remember much since I had surgery right after I was born, but my valve didn’t function properly.” He also recalled noticing the physical toll of his condition when he joined an entertainment company to become an idol, saying, “I didn’t think much of it, but my stamina dropped significantly.”

During the same appearance, he mentioned that his heart had grown larger with developed muscles and added, “My doctor found it rare for someone to overcome this condition through effort and expressed amazement. I still undergo daily check-ups.”

Born in 1996, Lee Jinhyuk debuted in 2015 with the EP Top Secret as part of UP10TION. He later gained individual recognition through Produce X 101 in 2019, pausing group activities to pursue a solo career, starting with his EP S.O.L. the same year. He has since expanded into acting, appearing in various dramas across the years.
