Singer Lee Soo Young is stepping away from her radio DJ role after 9 years to focus on her son’s leukemia treatment.

On the October 5 broadcast of CBS Music FM’s “12 O’Clock Let’s Meet,” Lee Soo Young explained why she hadn’t been in the DJ seat since Chuseok, saying, “I think everyone was wondering why I didn’t show up after Chuseok without saying anything.” She continued, “It’s because, right before the Chuseok holiday, my child suddenly became ill, and while undergoing tests at the hospital, he was diagnosed with T-cell lymphoblastic leukemia and had to be admitted.”

She went on, “He’s started treatment now and is holding up really well. Although he’s going through tests and treatment that are hard to handle at such a young age, he’s enduring it all so bravely and admirably that even I, his mother, am amazed.” She added, “Watching him, I’m also trying to keep my composure and get through each day alongside him.”

She further explained, “The expected treatment period is very long, and especially in the beginning, intensive chemotherapy continues, so I can’t take my eyes off him for even a moment.” She said, “I’ve had no choice but to decide to take a break from hosting ‘Let’s Meet at 12’ for the time being.”

Lee Soo Young debuted in November 1999 with her first album “I Believe” and rose to explosive popularity. She is a representative female ballad singer, beloved for ballad hits such as “La La La” and “Alone.”

Starting in October 2017, she was chosen as the DJ of “12 O’Clock Let’s Meet” and hosted the show for about 9 years. She captivated listeners with her witty way of speaking and wide-ranging empathy, earning high listener ratings.

CBS announcer Chae Seon A will fill in for Lee Soo Young in the DJ seat in the meantime.
