While Being On Probation For Drug Use, Nam Tae Hyun Gets Caught Drunk Driving After Crashing Into A Median
Nam Tae Hyun (31), a singer, has been found to have caused a car accident while driving under the influence during his suspended sentence period for drug use.
On the 8th of May, the Seoul Yongsan Police Station announced that Nam Tae Hyun was booked on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) on March 27.
Nam Tae Hyun reportedly crashed into a median near Dongjak Bridge on the Gangbyeon Expressway (heading toward Ilsan) around 4:10 a.m. that day, while trying to overtake another vehicle.
There were no reported injuries, but at the time, his blood alcohol concentration was at a level high enough to warrant license revocation (0.08% or higher).
Considering the fact that this incident occurred during his probation period, police applied for an arrest warrant on April 2. However, during a pre-trial detention hearing on April 7, the court rejected the request, stating there was no risk of evidence tampering.
The police plan to forward Nam Tae Hyun to the prosecution without detention in the near future.
Previously, in August 2023, Nam Tae Hyun was indicted without detention for violating the Narcotics Control Act. In January last year, he was sentenced to one year in prison, suspended for two years.
Nam Tae Hyun had previously shared his hardships with addiction and promised to live a better life. He had continued to send messages via broadcasts and social media stating, “I’m sincerely reflecting,” and “I’m determined to stay clean and live a new life.” He also expressed his hopes to return to music, saying last year, “I’m focusing on making music near a rehabilitation center while reflecting daily,” and, “I’m even working part-time to fund my album. I want to repay those who waited for me through music.”
Thus, many netizens have expressed their surprise and disappointment upon hearing the news.
