Netflix Refuses To Pay The Prize Money To The Winner Of Its Korean Show “The Influencer,” The Surprising Reason Why Revealed
Netflix did not pay the prize money to Oking, the winner of “The Influencer.”
On the 21st of August, a Netflix representative stated to Ilgan Sports that the prize was withheld because the winner violated the confidentiality agreement, which was essential to maintain the program’s integrity and fairness among participants.
The representative further explained that keeping the program’s content confidential before its release is crucial to ensuring that the hard work and creativity of everyone involved in the production are fully realized, allowing the audience to enjoy the intended experience.
The Influencer is a social survival program on Netflix where 77 of South Korea’s top influencers compete to prove who has the most influence, with a grand prize of 300 million won [$?224,800]. Oking, a popular YouTuber with around 2 million subscribers, was embroiled in controversy earlier this year due to allegations related to “Winners’ Scam Coin.” Although Oking initially claimed to be a victim and denied the allegations, he later sued the company involved for fraud and coercion.
Following the controversy, Oking temporarily stopped broadcasting but announced his return on May 24 via his YouTube channel. Shortly after his return, the former CEO of Winners publicly accused Oking of attacking the company merely to earn money, leading to the revelation that Oking was the winner of “The Influencer,” which ultimately brought Netflix into the spotlight.
Do you think Netflix is justified in their reasoning?
